Google Maps, October 15, 2026, cross-checked with another routing engine. Older “45 minutes” figures are optimistic. Times move with rain.

Reserva Conchal is about 1 hour and 10 minutes from Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport in Liberia. That is the figure to give a family booking the pickup. A usual-traffic measurement on October 15, 2026 put the fastest route at 1 hour 9 minutes and 46.8 kilometers, about 29 miles, via Route 911. A second routing check agreed closely enough to trust the hour, not the exact minute. Rain, a truck, or a holiday weekend will edit it. “About 1 hour 10” already includes that humility. “45 minutes” does not. See Reserva Conchal.

There is a longer way that some drivers prefer because more of it is the kind of pavement they expected. Via Belén and Huacas it is about 60 kilometers and about 1 hour 15 to 1 hour 30. Transfer companies that publish 1 hour 10 to 1 hour 30 are describing this same spread. Use the longer end if you are landing after dark in the rainy months and would rather not be clever.

The other gates, from the same curb

Las Catalinas is about 1 hour 6 to 1 hour 10 from Liberia, close to Conchal’s time with a different last turn. Playa Flamingo is about 1 hour 2, and up to about 1 hour 17 if you take the alternate. Tamarindo is about 1 hour 26. Hacienda Pinilla is about 1 hour 31. None of these is a trek. The differences show up on the third trip of the week, not on the ride from the airport with the windows down.

Once you are at Conchal, the coast compresses. Playa Flamingo is about 6 or 7 minutes. Brasilito, the village for basic shopping, is about 5 to 10 minutes. Tamarindo, where the larger shops are, is about 26 minutes. Those are the drives that decide whether a house “feels remote.” The airport drive is once or twice a season. The Flamingo drive is a Tuesday.

Schools, shops, and the paved choice

CRIA, the international school in Brasilito, is about 8 minutes from Conchal. La Paz Community School’s Cabo Velas campus is about 10 minutes. From Las Catalinas both are about 25 to 30 minutes. Tuition belongs on the schools question in this FAQ; the only point here is that a school-age family in Conchal is not commuting to San José. Country Day School, if someone mentions it, is in the capital, not on this coast.

Groceries follow the same map. Brasilito has the basics. Huacas, about 10 to 15 minutes from Conchal, has full supermarkets and the private hospital. Auto Mercado in Tamarindo is about 21 minutes from the Conchal beach club. From Las Catalinas, Potrero has basics at about 10 minutes, Huacas is about 30 minutes, and Tamarindo is about 50. If your week assumes a particular shop, drive it from the house before you assume the brochure’s “minutes from everything.”

Airlines change. The airport question in this FAQ lists what was announced for the winter 2026–27 season and the passenger counts through 2025 and early 2026. Confirm the flight with the carrier. The road from the airport will still be about an hour and ten minutes when you land.
